V Entertainment presents the “Concert King,” Martin Nievera LIVE in “Martin Nievera Was Here,” in an intimate setting on June 26, 2016 at the Japanese-American Cultural and Community Center (JACCC). Limited tickets available.
One of the Philippines’ most popular and influential singers, Martin Nievera has released almost 30 albums and scores of hits, many considered Filipino pop classics: “Be My Lady,” “Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin,” “Each Day With You,” “You Are My Song,” “Ikaw,” “Kahit Isang Saglit,” “Please Don’t Throw My Love Away,” “You Are to Me,” and “Forever.”
Martin is also a songwriter who has written a number of the aforementioned classics, a fairly successful actor, and more famously, a TV host. He hosted his own late-night talk show, “Martin After Dark,” which lasted a decade, and co-hosts the top-rating musical variety show “ASAP” on ABS-CBN. He was a celebrity judge of “The X Factor Philippines,” the local franchise of the world-renowned reality show-talent contest, also on ABS-CBN.
Born in Manila, Martin grew up in Hawaii and the Bay Area of California. His father Bert, a singer with Hawaii-based Society of Seven, encouraged him to go to their motherland and pursue a singing career.
He landed in Manila in 1982. That same year, he released his debut album and began hosting the TV variety show “Penthouse Live!” with singer Pops Fernandez, who later became his wife. After almost two decades as a popular celebrity couple, each successful in their own right, Martin and Pops separated in 1998; they have two grown sons, Ram and Robin.
His success as a singer carried over to acting, with starring or featured roles in 11 movies and seven television series and specials.
One of the most commercially successful Filipino pop stars for two generations, Martin has recorded 27 albums, of which 18 turned Platinum, five Double Platinum, three Triple Platinum and one Quadruple Platinum.
His numerous awards include Male Concert Performer of the Year for 2008, 2009 and 2010 at the GMMSF Box-Office Entertainment Awards; Entertainer of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006 from the Aliw Awards Foundation Hall of Fame; Best Male Singer and Star of the Year in 1988 from The Honolulu Advertiser; and Best Interpreter for a Composition in 1990 at the Abu Golden Kite Awards in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
As a TV host, he won six Star Awards in 1989 to 1991, 1993, 1994, and 1996.
Martin has mounted dozens of national and international concert tours at world capitals, as a solo performer, and with fellow stars like Pops Fernandez, Gary Valenciano, Sharon Cuneta, Zsazsa Padilla, and Sarah Geronimo. He gigged with his dad’s old group, Society of Seven during the group’s tenure at Flamingo Las Vegas in 2008. He is also one of a few Filipino pop artists to perform at the Hollywood Bowl, which he did in 2012 along with apl.de.ap of Black Eyed Peas.
“Martin Nievera Was Here” marks the Concert King’s return to the Los Angeles concert stage after a few years.
Joining Martin in this intimate concert are special guest artists Replay, Cheesa Laureta and Ken Eugenio.
