Award-winning choir performs at Northridge Plaza Del Sol on Aug 19
The Philippine Madrigal Singers (aka U.P. Madrigal Singers) tours the USA prior to competing for an unprecedented third European Grand Prix for Choral Singing in Spain come November.
The world-renowned choir, nicknamed the “Madz” by its fans, is the only Philippine Choir to have qualified and won the prestigious Grand Prix, and the first choir in the world to have won twice.
The Madz maintain a fan base with a wide age range. Fans eagerly gather post-show at the lobby of the Cultural Center, where the Madz have started a tradition of a post-concert song on the steps of the famed theatre’s lobby. Such is the phenomenon that audiences simply cannot get enough of the Madz, who has bested choirs from France, Slovenia, Iceland, Italy, Sweden, Bulgaria and the Ukraine in the rigorous choral competition.
The Plaza Del Sol Performance Hall will reverberate with the voices that have conquered audiences all over the world. The hall is part of the Valley Performing Arts Center (VPAC) in the California State University Northridge (CSUN) Campus.
Choirmaster Mark Anthony Carpio, a highly respected choral adjudicator and clinician, has prepared a repertoire of competition pieces, madrigals, original compositions and popular English and OPM songs specially arranged for choral singing. Praised for its ability to sing anything and everything with equal aplomb, audiences are in for a treat as the choir deftly uses the human voice to envelop the audience in sound, something that should be experienced in the same breathing space, live.
The Madz perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, venue address is 18111 Nordhoff Street, Northridge, CA 91330. Tickets are $70, $55, and $40 online anytime at www.ticketmaster.com.
