Jessica Sanchez makes waves for Clinton campaign

Jessica Sanchez’s latest single “Stronger Together” was a hit at this year’s Democratic National Convention, so much so that the song has become the unofficial anthem of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

Legendary songwriters Carole Bayer Sager, Bruce Roberts and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds wrote the song and asked the half-Filipina, half-Mexican popstar to record it.

Without hesitation, she agreed to it and the next day she recorded the catchy, upbeat pop song. Just days after recording, “Stronger Together” premiered at the DNC. Sanchez describes hearing her voice at the DNC as a “crazy experience” and is proud to contribute her talents to the campaign.

“It was insane, and I still can’t believe I’m out here doing this stuff,” Sanchez, 21, told the Asian Journal. “It’s a huge opportunity to be out here, and it’s so amazing to be a part of this campaign.”

In addition to providing the voice for the campaign’s theme song, the American Idol alum has been on the ground campaigning for Clinton. Earlier this month, Sanchez was at the University of Las Vegas (UNLV) with Hillary for Nevada registering voters and garnering support.

Sanchez feels that Clinton has the people’s interest on the forefront. She added that a Clinton presidency would greatly benefit young Americans because of her plans to make college affordable and limit student debt.

“I really feel like she’s for the people, and she’s really here to help our future and I feel like she will improve the country,” Sanchez said. “I’m excited to be a part of this and support her and actually vote her this election, which is the first election where I’ll be able to vote.”

The campaign’s message also resonates with Sanchez, who believes in uniting Americans together is the solution to many of the nation’s problems.

“I don’t want to name names, but I feel like [Clinton’s] message is better than other people’s messages,” Sanchez said with a laugh. “I think bringing the community together is really important.”
