After smash NY opening, Philippines’ most successful indie film ever expands to 40 cities in 15 states on November 6
Lead star John Arcilla to appear in select theaters
LOS ANGELES—After successfully winning over film critics, film audiences and ultimately, cinematic history, “Heneral Luna,” the groundbreaking and controversial Philippine box office phenomenon now sets its sights across the Pacific to the United States.
Recently titled the most successful independent film in Philippine cinema box office history, “Heneral Luna,” fresh from a smash opening weekend in New York and New Jersey, where it will continue for at least another week, expands to 40 cities in 15 states Friday, November 6 for daily, multiple-screenings in theaters.
The film’s charismatic title lead, John Arcilla, will make appearances at select theaters in Los Angeles, San Francisco and in the East Coast during the roll out expansion.
An Artikulo Uno production, produced by E.A. Rocha, executive produced by Fernando Ortigas and directed by Jerrold Tarog from a screenplay by Henry Francia, E.A. Rocha and Tayag, “Heneral Luna” features a respected, talented ensemble cast of multi-award winning actors.
The film, a historically dramatized narrative interpretation, centers on the eponymous General Antonio Luna (John Arcilla) and the politicized dynamics surrounding his relationships with President Emilio Aguinaldo (Mon Confiado), Felipe Buencamino (Nonie Buencamino), Pedro Paterno (Leo Martinez) and Apolinario Mabini (Epy Quizon) and the Philippines’ nascent battle for independence.
Philippine film audiences and the public in general have taken to the film where it is now in its record-continuing 9th week of release and the spirited dialogues about the film continue long after the end credits.
“At some point our humble but, ambitious film transformed from movie to movement,” said Tarog. “We are amazed , grateful and blessed that audiences and critics have responded as enthusiastically as they have to what is still very much a grassroots effort.
“We hope that our Kababayans and their non-Pinoy friends alike can catch the same enthusiasm as it opens in the US,” he added.
