Filipina beauty wins ‘Asia’s Next Top Model’

FILIPINO-German Maureen Wroblewitz came out on top of “Asia’s Next Top Model (ASNTM)” on Wednesday, June 28. Wroblewitz is the first Filipina to win the competition, beating out Shikin Gomez from Malaysia and Thu Minh from Vietnam on the series’ finale episode.

“I was the last Filipina standing and a Filipina has never won before,” said Wroblewitz on her Instagram post on Thursday, June 29.

The Philippines finished first runner-up in ASNTM’s first three seasons. Stephanie Retuya claimed third place on Cycle 1 while Jodilly Pendre and Monika Sta, Maria clinched the second spot during Cycle 2 and Cycle 3, respectively.

“She deserved it because she worked hard for it. Also, for me, it’s like a sweet vengeance for me because finally [a Filipina won!],” said Pendre told Inquirer.

“I wanted to win this for my country—the Philippines and I’m so happy to say that I did. This is all for you guys! We won this together,” Wroblewitz said.

The winner was declared by the judges, who include the show’s host Cindy Bishop, creative director Yu Tsai, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Nylon Singapore Editor-in-Chief Adele Chan and Storm Model Management Agent Ruby Adler.

Wroblewitz described her journey throughout the competition as a “roller coaster [ride[ that had its ups and downs.” She almost got eliminated twice, and but also won best photo three times.

As part of her prizes, Wroblewitz will fly to London to work under Storm Models Management, she will also be on the cover of Nylon Singapore and become the brand ambassador for Subaru.

“I hope I inspire everyone to do the same thing I did. To follow your dreams and to not let anyone bring you down. Do what you love to do! It’s true! You’re capable of doing anything, if you just go out and try! So work hard, it’ll pay off,” Wroblewitz told her fans.
