Two internationally-renowned Filipino boxing champions will be fighting on the same event on November 5 in Las Vegas.
In an ABS-CBN report, boxing promoter Bob Arum announced that Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. will fight against Jessie Magdaleno at the co-main event of Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao’s comeback fight.
“We are looking to do something really spectacular for all Filipino people,” Arum said.
Donaire will defend the crown against Magdaleno after reclaiming his WBO super bantamweight title last December, following a unanimous verdict over Cesar Juarez.
Earlier this April, he defended his belt after coming off a TKO win Hungarian Olympian Zsolt Bedak in the third round.
On the other hand, Magdaleno has a 23-0 professional record with 17 of his wins coming by way of knockout. His fight with Donaire will be his first shot at a world title.
In his latest match, Magdaleno knocked out Pinoy boxer Rey Perez in the seventh round.
“When we made the fight, one of the reasons why we are in Thomas and Mack, it sets up so that we can have more than 6000 seats that we are charging 50 dollars from, so that the Filipinos who come here who usually watch it on closed circuit can watch it for as low as 50 dollars,” Arum said.
“It’s gonna be packed with Filipino fans,” he added.
The Pacquiao-Vargas fight will take place at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
