Celebrities support Rocky Gathercole’s ‘Rock The Runway’

Fashion Fundraiser for Bantay Bata on July 28

HOLLYWOOD—When Queen of Latin Pop Paulina Rubio tweeted about “Rock The Runway”—avant-garde Filipino designer Rocky Gathercole’s benefit fashion show for Bantay Bata (Child Watch), a program addressing the needs of abused kids in the Philippines—it showed how the event has reached the awareness of international celebrities.

Gathercole, Lifestyle Network and For The Stars Fashion House joined hands for their first collaborative fashion fundraiser to benefit ABS-CBN Foundation International’s Bantay Bata program via “Rock The Runway” this July 28, Thursday, starting at 6pm, at the landmark Avalon Hollywood.

The fashion show, which will feature Gathercole’s eccentric genius seen in his creations for stars like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Gwen Stefani, Paulina Rubio, Jennifer Lopez, Thalia, Carrie Underwood, among others, will be directed by award-winning film, concert and TV director John-D Lazatin, also currently ABS-CBN global head of theatricals, overseeing the successful distribution of Filipino films for ABS-CBN worldwide.

Co-hosting the pre-show on July 28 are Hollywood actor and voice talent Dante Basco (Hook, Take The Lead, Biker Boyz, The Debut, Nickelodeon’sAvatar: The Last Airbender) and Emmy award-winning writer and producer for television, Keesa Ocampo.

Performers for the pre-show comprise an eclectic selection of talents:

Matthew John Ignacio, a prodigy described by Oscar-winning composer Maestro Andrea Morricone as a “musical genius”, is a virtuoso on the piano, accordion and cello. He became the youngest cellist for the Filipino-American Symphony Orchestra, a protégé of the internationally acclaimed cellist Dr. Richard Naill at the Colburn School of the Performing Arts and a celebrated prodigy of Maestro Morricone, making a name for himself with his ingenious virtuosity, sensitivity to music, and versatile musicianship.

Francesca Camus has captivated international audiences with her eclectic ability to perform a wide range of repertoire that encompasses Soul, R&B, Blues, Jazz, Country, Opera and Rock. She performed for years with the super luxury cruise line Silversea aboard its ocean liners Silver Spiritand Silver Shadow, travelling across Europe, Asia, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand and Alaska. She has also performed at various luxury casino resorts in Las Vegas.

The Dose — Indio Downey (vocals, guitar) and Ralph Alexander (drums, bass) – are natives of Los Angeles, California who aspire to be the biggest-sounding two-piece band they can be. Inspired by the likes of Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age, Tame Impala, and The Sword, The Dose unlocked a robust signature sound without adding any other members, resorting to digital playback, or employing backing tracks.Alexander plays bass synth pedals with his foot while drumming. This year, they released their self-titled debut EP. The first single “Cold Hands” builds with airy guitar and a breathy hook that’s chillingly catchy. The band’s name? “It’s a play on words,” explains Alexander. “In Spanish, ‘Dos’ means two. At the same time, you’re getting a dose of our brand of rock ‘n’ roll,” claims Downey.  If the surname sounds familiar, yes, he is the son of actor Robert Downey, Jr.  But with The Dose, Downey and Alexander shoot to be a remedy for today’s rock ‘n’ roll needs.

Miss Earth 2014 Jamie Herrell and Disney and Broadway actress-singer Anna Maria Perez de Tagle were also invited to “Rock The Runway”.

Other celebrities who have been invited to the event are Maestro Andrea Morricone, film and TV actress Tia Carrere, singer and songwriterJessica Sanchez, first Filipino American finalist in the Oscar Design Challenge Alan Del Rosario, Miss Earth 2014 Jamie Herrell, Emmy-winning producer Marc Anthony Nicolas of CBS’ “The Talk” and host of Lifestyle Network’s “On Your Marc”, actress-singer-host Giselle “G” Töngi, Disney and Broadway actress and singer Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, hip hop recording artist, producer and musician apl.de.ap, among others.
