Two-night ‘Annebisyosa’ at Pechanga Theater draws near SRO crowds
Respected actress, well-rounded television host, top commercial product endorser, Pinay sex goddess — these have been used to describe Anne Curtis.
Now, add international concert performer to the list of things that the Filipino-Australian beauty has added to her checklist of accomplishments.
Yes, the actress with the face and body that many fantasize about was a certified crowd-drawer during her two-night stint at the Pechanga Theater inside the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA last June 15 and 16.
Anne Curtis will be the first to admit that she is not an accomplished singer. This much she admitted to the audience after her opening number (“Di ba, hindi naman kayo nag-e-expect ng sobrang gandang boses kasi hindi ako ‘yon”), which she botched a little bit because of nerves.
But what she lacks in vocal prowess, she more than makes up for in gusto and an energy that rivals the most seasoned of performers.
It helps, too, that Anne seems relatable even if she is considered as one of the biggest stars in the Philippines. Her giggles, little shrieks, screams of delight and willingness to put herself out there (flat notes and song mistakes notwithstanding) delighted concert-goers who seemed to have a good time watching Anne give her all.
The No Other Woman star performed both fast and slow numbers, including popular ditties like Teenage Dream by Katy Perry, Diamonds by Rihanna, Super Bass by Nikki Minaj, On The Floor by Jennifer Lopez and the song that Anne says started this all, Alone by Heart.
More than the song numbers, people were thrilled to see the many costume changes that Anne Curtis did during the concert.
From an elegant red gown, to a lacy black lingerie with garter outfit, to an orange couture mini dress, to the iconic black gown with a really high slit (to name a few) the sexy star showed off her toned body. Anne even asked loudly when she came out in one of the sexy outfits if there were any Movie & Television Review Classification Board officials in the audience that had the audience laughing.
Interspersed in between costume segments were video presentations about the making of the Annebisyosa concert, rehearsals in the studio and run-throughs at the Araneta Coliseum, scenes from the movie No Other Woman, and quick takes on her successful show in Hong Kong. The special guest for the concert was soul siren Nina.
Annebisyosa actually is an offshoot of Anne Curtis’ 2011 album with the same title that went platinum in the Philippines. Among the popular songs released from the album are Mouth and Tinamaan Ako.
The June 15 and June 16 Annebisyosa concert dates were part of Pechanga Resort & Casino’s celebration of the 115th anniversary of Philippine Independence. Aside from the shows, Pechanga decorated some of the properties’ entrances in the colors of the Philippine flag. The casino-resort also had one of their vendors put a nipa hut (bahay kubo) with the words “Mabuhay” in one of the main entrances to the hotel/casino. The decorations were put up just in time for the Philippine Independence Day anniversary that falls on June 12 of each year.
According to Greg Leung, Director of Asian Marketing for Pechanga Resort & Casino, it is very important for them to celebrate the diverse cultures represented by their varied clientele. This is the main reason why Pechanga holds events that celebrate the important cultural and historical milestones of their customers, which in this case was the anniversary of Philippine Independence.
Coinciding with the Anne Curtis shows was a media tour presented by Pechanga Resort & Casino to members of Filipino media preceded by a sumptuous dinner at Bamboo, Pechanga’s newest Asian restaurant. Several of Pechanga’s upper management and Filipino staff were on hand to personally attend to the Fil-Am media practitioners, including Bill Anderson, Director for Player Development, Tony Canicosa who is Assistant Director for Food & Beverage, and Executive Casino Hosts Marylou Bean and Dolores Salvador.
The media tour was arranged by Igraphix, headed by company president Wade Lai, vice president Peter Tam, media director Mage Ng, and public relations director Opal Tsui.
After the Pechanga shows, it will be back to the Philippines for Anne Curtis as she tackles the various commitments she has, including her TV shows and movies. She revealed though, during the brief media interview post-concert, that there is some interest in bringing Annebisyosa to other locations and that they will be taking a look at these.
What thrills Anne more than anything else is the fact that through hard work and determination, she has been able to accomplish the many goals that she has set for herself. True to every young girl’s dream, the “Goddess of All Media” says that she is thankful that her dreams are coming true one by one.
If she remains as humble and as grounded as she seems to be, and if she maintains that energy and enthusiasm that she has every time she performs, Anne Curtis will continue to check off things from her “To Do” list as well as continue her rise to stardom.
