MORE than the money and title, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao’s most precious prize from the biggest fight of his career is uniting Filipinos who are supporting him as he dukes it out with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Saturday, May 2.
Whenever Pacman steps into the boxing ring, Filipinos around the world are glued to their television sets as the “People’s Champ” gives and receives punches round after round. Even criminals take time off during the fight that authorities record an almost zero crime rate.
“Pacquiao has a proven impact on the occurrence of crimes. The crime rate goes down because everybody is holed up watching him fight,” Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesman Senior Superintendent Bartolome Tobias said.
Because of Pacquiao’s humble beginnings and rags-to-riches story, he is sympathized and admired by millions across the globe. He is a worldwide superstar and one of the highest paid athletes, whose face is seen on television, huge billboard spaces and in newspapers.
Despite his fame and fortune, Pacquiao has been vocal in professing his faith and sharing the gospel of God—adding up to the many reasons why people praise him.
When he fights in the ring, the whole Filipino nation fights with him—all the way, win or lose. Mabuhay ka, Manny!
