A majority of Americans think Trump is not honest, disapprove of the job he is doing as president

DONALD J. TRUMP has been president for a little over 60 days and yet his approval and trust rating continues to plummet amid the controversies, scandals and failures he has caused upon himself.
Amid the growing list of issues against Trump: inability to close the deal among Republicans to pass Trumpcare that would have repealed and replaced Obamacare; the U.S. intelligence agencies exposing Trump’s lies with his baseless accusation that his predecessor Pres. Barack Obama wiretapped him in Trump Tower during the 2016 presidential election; the ongoing investigation into the alleged collusion of the Trump campaign with Russia to meddle in the presidential election to help him win; his two travel bans being blocked by federal courts; his budget cuts of funding for social services that help the poor and marginalized Americans; his record churning of executive orders to reverse Obama’s initiatives to protect the rights of consumers, the environment.
Both the Gallup tracking poll and Quinnipiac poll found only 37 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s performance as president.
The Gallup poll reports a majority of Americans — 58 percent— disapprove of the way he is doing his job, while the Quinnipiac poll found that 57 percent disapprove.
Equally concerning is the Quinnipiac poll finding that Americans largely do not trust the things President Trump says. Sixty percent of voters felt Trump is NOT honest, an increase of 5 percent from earlier this month. Seventy-three percent thought the president and his administration make statements and claims without evidence “very often” or “somewhat often.”
The most ominous revelation of the polls would be the eroding support from his fierce loyal base. According to Quinnipiac University Poll Assistant Director Tim Malloy, “Most alarming for President Donald Trump, the demographic underpinnings of his support, Republicans, white voters, especially men and those without a college degree, are starting to have doubts.”
If this trend continues, how will Trump then succeed in governing?
