Journey shines at the Greek Theatre

LOS ANGELES - Walking towards the Greek Theatre the night of Sept. 30, the cool air blew against my face while I heard sounds of music from afar.

How Hollywood stars lend their star power to promote global causes

NEW YORK CITY - From curbing world hunger to promoting water and sanitation, from battling the AIDS epidemic to pushing for more cancer research, Hollywood celebrities are lending their fame, influence and star power to make sure that such global issues get noticed by more people.

At the recently concluded Clinton Global Initiative’s annual meeting, there was no shortage of celebrities and famous world leaders who have adopted causes to help and subsequently promote.

Recording company sues Lil' Kim in NYC

NEW YORK (AP) - A recording company has sued Lil' Kim for $2.5 million, saying the Grammy-winning rapper hasn't delivered all the recordings their contract requires.

Brookland Media filed the lawsuit Tuesday in Manhattan's state Supreme Court. Lil' Kim's lawyer, Londell McMillan, says Brookland sued "to leverage their own position" in the contract dispute.

'Jazzipino' in new CD

LOS ANGELES - "Jazzipino" exponent Charmaine Clamor, the first Filipina artist to place on both the world music and traditional jazz music charts in the US, has released yet another labor of love and passion, "My Harana: A Filipino Serenade."

The CD is Charmaine's follow-up to her "Flippin' Out," which earned favorable reviews and got consistent radio and Internet airplay in America. That album secured her title as the purveyor of "jazzipino" music, her hybrid of jazz and Filipino music and lyrics. This time, the Los Angeles-based Charmaine, awarded as one of the 100 Most Influential Filipinas in the US, lovingly tackles some of the Philippines' romantic serenade songs in various dialects.
