RP to push for “Schengen” type visa

The Philippines will push for the adoption of common visa among citizens of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) during the start of the meeting of ASEAN immigration chiefs and consuls in Manila on Monday.

Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan said the Philippines will actively campaign for the plenary approval of a common ASEAN visa among ASEAN member-countries.

Obama asks RP to draft US-Asean partnership accord

US President Barack Obama and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) tapped the Philippines, on Sunday, to draft a fresh five-year plan covering his country’s groundbreaking engagement with the region on a variety of areas, such as trade, security, climate change and human rights.

Already the coordinator for the first-ever Asean-US leaders’ meeting, Manila was designated to “lead the drafting” of the existing five-year enhanced partnership agreement between the two parties.

Pinoys hope for respect through Pacquiao victory

``We get discriminated against and it is taken against us if we mispronounce a word, but the victory of Manny showed to the world we are equal to them and if we try harder, even better than them,'' Greg Cruz, a call center agent from Marikina City, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer, as he emerged from the Araneta Coliseum where more than 18,000 people watched the fight live, through a 30-foot screen installed to cover the four angles of the dome.

Nelson Aves, 31, another call center agent, echoed Cruz statement and added, ``Now they cannot put down our race, Manny has raised it. His hard work and victory should serve as an inspiration.''

Cambodians cheer Pacquiao victory

MANILA - It's not only Filipinos who are shouting in jubilation over Manny Pacquiao's victory.

Cambodians are also cheering for the Filipino boxer, who has gained a following in the Southeast Asian country, according to journalist Ung Chamroeun.
