MANILA - President-elect Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III on Monday said he might get television news anchor Ricky Carandang for to help his media group but not as press secretary.
Aquino was reacting to reports that Carandang will be his press secretary
"I haven't talked to him...not as press secretary. But he might have a (part) in the media," he told reporters.
"We really want to engage the citizenry and part of that is a communications strategy," he added.
Aquino also revealed that he was considering former Education Secretary Florencio "Butch" Abad for a Cabinet post but he refused to say.
Abad is Aquino's campaign manager and former president of Aquino's Liberal Party.
The former government official was at Aquino's house but he arrived separately with Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero, who sought a separate meeting with the elected President.
"I'm considering (Abad) for one position which I'm not at liberty to tell you about because I haven't talked to him,” Aquino said.
The President-elect has been keeping close to his chest the names of his Cabinet members, saying he would announce its composition probably within the week.
So far, Aquino has named only four of his Cabinet secretaries: Pacquito Ochoa as Executive Secretary, Corazon Soliman as Secretary of Department of Social Works and Development, Teresita Deles as presidential adviser on peace process, and Edwin Lacierda as presidential spokesman.
Aside from Carandang, singer Jim Paredes was also rumored as the next Tourism Secretary.
Cesar Purisima was also reportedly being considered as Finance Secretary.
