Bankruptcy: When bad things happen to good people

IF you’ve accumulated a lot of debt and something has happened in your life that’s made it difficult to pay your bills, you are not alone.  After almost 18 years of practice as a debt relief attorney, I know that bad things can happen to good, honest and decent people.
If you are going through a tough time financially, you would think that the banks will somehow be sympathetic to your situation so that you could work out an amicable solution. That would certainly make things a bit easier for you as you’re trying to catch up and get back on your feet financially. Unfortunately, these banks are NOT on your side!
So it doesn’t matter to them that: You just lost your job and couldn’t even pay your living expenses. You had a medical emergency and just received huge, unexpected medical bills. You are going through a divorce or separation and are drowning in debt. Your business is slow (if you’re a business owner) and you have cash flow problems.
None of that really matters to them!  Once you fall behind, it gets harder and harder to catch up with every month that goes by.  Then the dreaded collection calls and letters begin. And how can you possibly even begin to pay off what you owe when they jump your interest rates to 30% or more once you’re late? So they kick you while you’re down and you find it even more impossible to dig yourself out of the financial hole.
Some people resort to borrowing from friends, family, co-workers or sometimes even worse, from payday loan companies. These are the companies who prey on people who are desperate for a loan and they charge 5-10 times as much in interest as the credit card companies are charging you.
FACT: you can’t borrow your way out of debt.  Borrowing when you’re already buried in debt only makes your problems worse. If you have done everything you can on your own but nothing has worked up to this point, don’t be embarrassed to seek legal help. If bankruptcy is right for you, it may just be what you need to turn your situation around.
Filing bankruptcy, when appropriate for your situation, can help you get out debt so that you can start over. I realize that this is not an easy decision for most people to make because filing bankruptcy is the last thing they ever want to do. However, if it has become necessary in order for you to get out of the financial mess you are currently in, you may not have a choice. Because if you don’t take action, things will only get worse and there may be devastating consequences for you and your family.
Your debt problems will not go away until you face them and sooner or later, you will need to. So why not take action now before things get worse? If you are unsure whether this option is for you, I offer a free confidential consultation. Call my office at 866-477-7772 to request an appointment.
