The Philippines’ rich cultural diversity is celebrated with resounding rhythms of drums, metal gongs, and the splendidly sublime stringed rondalla instruments. As the exotic music fills the air, dancers serve a vibrant and colorful feast for the eyes…Magkaugnay, translated as interconnectedness, features creative and first-time collaborative work led by KAYAMANAN NG LAHI, with northern hill tribe rituals by BIBAK DANCE ENSEMBLE, lowland Spanish-tinged festivities by the RONDALLA CLUB OF LOS ANGELES, and the southern island’s time-honored cultural heritage by PAKARAGUIAN KULTINTANG ENSEMBLE. The four accomplished groups, rooted in tradition and inspired by post-modernism, interconnect to celebrate the Philippine spirit in music and dance.
