‘Lovers in Paris’: The Pinoy way The Korean drama which introduced as to Vivian and Carlo and transformed Kitchie Nadal’s heartfelt ditty Wag na ‘Wag Mong Sasabihin into a "national anthem" back in 2004 gets a PInoy remake.

Lovers in Paris, the Pinoy version brought to us by the ABS-CBN network, stars Piolo Pascual, one of today’s hottest dramatic actors, and KC Concepcion, who proves she has greater thespic skills to show than her charming poses and bright smiles that her commercial endorsements allow her to.

Before the show’s premiere last Sept. 28, speculations were rife of excess production costs and other production issues. Apparently, news of a remake of Lovers in Paris already made rounds in the Internet as early as March of this year, but it wasn’t until five months later when the show actually premiered because some scenes had to be redone and reshot.
However, for many teleserye fans, these rumors only made the anticipation even greater.

Young Filipino Professionals Associationssociation (YFPA)Making connections

EXPERTS agree that networking is worth your time and effort. Socially, this is proven with the surge and success of numerous social networking sites in cyberspace such as Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn. However, networking goes beyond to just meeting friends and building personal relationships. It also offers another avenue to reach professionals, possibly for business and employment, as well as make people more active in their community.

The Young Filipino Professionals Association (YFPA) is one such organization that embraces the idea and importance of networking. Launched in 2002 as a collaborative forum for Filipino-American professionals, YFPA was started by three classmates from the University of San Francisco – Neil Baquiran, Greg Montemayor and Roselle Rapadas. Recognizing the need for a Fil-Am professional group in the San Francisco Bay Area that could create and support professional networking, educational and community service activities, YFPA was a forum to connect and collaborate.

Efren Peñaflorida: An ordinary man doing extraordinary things

For those great men and women who champion noble causes, it is not unusual to hear stories of that one defining moment in their lives of how they got involved in their advocacy in the first place. Some claim that their epiphany came in form of a man or a woman who enlightened them and showed them to their path, some claim that it came after a long meditation while some claim it came in form of a dream, a song, a TV show or a film. For social worker and teacher by profession Efren Peñaflorida, his epiphany came in form of rocks.

Growing up in a poverty-stricken part of Cavite City, Efren’s life was full of struggles even at an early age. He lived near the city dump site, his parents (his dad a tricycle driver and his mom a vendor) worked hard to make ends meet. The young Efren knew back then that it was education which will be instrumental to alleviate their destitute status. Thus, he made sure to always do his best at school. However, Efren often encountered neighborhood kids who would hang out outside his school who either bullied him or enticed him to join gangs, some even resorting to the violent actof beating him up. When Efren was in fourth year high school at the Cavite National High School, the bullying reached a new low: the bullies started to throw rocks at them.
